Alcoa scraps Perth Hills expansion, saying the environment comes first until profits look juicier

American mining giant Alcoa has listened to the environmental concerns of the Perth Hills over its plans to expand its exploration of the Jarrah Forest for more precious bauxite.

They have heard how their operations could harm the only jarrah forrest in the world, contaminate Perth’s drinking water and generally run a toxic train on the ecosystem.

Clearly, these are all issues a massive foreign miner care about and they have told the Perth Hills they will scrap their plans to protect the environment up until the economic upside of the project looks juicier.

A source close to Alcoa told The Times,

“Maybe when the Kwinana Refinery was pumping it made sense but now the margins on the project are a bit thin and that’s when a mining company can pretend to give a fark about the environment they very truly intend to rehabilitate”

Indeed, Alcoa shareholders are thrilled with the company’s strong environmental stance, with one shareholder telling The Times,

“You can’t go destroying pristine ecosystems to just make a few bucks, you need to be making the big bucks, I support their decision and maybe when the AISC look better they should turn that forest into swiss cheese”

Thanks Alcoa.
