FIFO bloke admits everyone feels heat differently and doesn’t one-up anyone about Perth’s weather

Big Dave, a Fly In Fly Out worker, empathised with his Perth friends today as they made small talk around the pub about the scorching temperature.

Given the mild spring, some in Perth have been caught a little off guard by the hottest start to Summer since records began. This is something Big Dave completely understood and told The Times,

“I have a high tolerance to heat because I work regularly in it and my body has acclimatised. It’s that subjective nature of experience that makes us human and who am I to invalidate someone’s own unique relationship with the world around them?”

This display of empathy and self awareness sent shockwaves through the pub. With a punter on a nearby table overhearing Big Dave. He told The Times,

“Not in a million years did I expect any of that to come out of his mouth. He even went to the free iced water on the counter and asked me if I wanted a glass, adding that it was important to stay hydrated in the heat”

Naturally, the bloke thought this was the start of some set up. Fully expect your average FIFO worker to ridicule him for taking a sip of the water and telling him about every single 12 hour shift he’s worked in hotter conditions.

This never came. Big Dave explained,

“Do you think anyone is tougher than dehydration mate? I’ve seen dehydration take down the staunchest blokes. It’s 38 degrees out there, have plenty of fluids, there’s no shame in it”

Astounding scenes.
