Jetstar has fronted the media today to advise that half of its A320 Airbus fleet had to be grounded due to “software issues”.
When pressed on what these software issues were, Jetstar conceded that Airbus told them that the technology that ran on Windows Vista hadn’t been updating since about 2017.
A source close to Jetstar told The Times,
“Yeah, as soon as Airbus told us that there had been no updates for 8 years we were a little shocked. They said they had to update it manually via a patch they downloaded on the dark web”
Updating Windows Vista must be done in person as Airbus confirm that the fleet are actually running on a pirated copy and they could lose access if someone makes a misstep during the process.
We spoke to an aviation safety expert who told The Times that this sort of thing was common among budget airlines. Adding,
“Airbus give everyone the option to use XP if they want to shell out a few more bucks but Jetstar said absolutely not. There is nothing wrong with Vista according to them, its like a comfy pair of grundies”
Classic.
