ECU City is now open for business but one has to ponder whether the full gravity of its situation has dawned on it.
Spruiked as the saviour of Yagan Square and indeed the entire revitalisation of the Perth CBD, the little SuperTAFE has a big job ahead of itself.
We spoke to a member of the Perth public who said he wasn’t sure it was up to the task but it had “better” suceed. Adding,
“If I’m honest, I wouldn’t touch the CBD with a 100 foot pole, it’s not very inviting at times and I read too much 7West bullshit. Anyway, luckily ECU is going to magically fix all those problems, aren’t you, ECU?”
Local business also have lofty hopes for the Uni. With one bar owner telling The Times,
“If you can afford international student fees in Australia than you can afford to splash some serious cash around, you seen some of the cars that park at Curtin? Come park that money with us, or else, ECU”
Another punter said he couldn’t wait for all those students to establish a more calming presence in the area. Adding,
“I’m looking forward to some younger types in the city that aren’t just eshays on eScooters trying to act tough. I was a mature aged student for many years so let’s just say I know how to charm a few first year girls ha ha”
Gross.
