SailGP reclassified as an airshow after Freo Doctor shows no signs of behaving

SailGP teams have been rushing to get CASA approval after the weekend’s event was officially reclassified as an airshow rather than a boat race.

Thanks to Perth’s “gentle sea breeze”, competitors were getting some decent air during training and the Doctor is going to stick around for the next few days.

We spoke to one racer who said the term “sea breeze” was misleading. Adding,

“I know all you sickos want to see some action but geez, that howling gale you call a sea breeze is going to make things very spicy, hope you’re all satisfied, Perth”

The news will be welcomed by everyone in Perth who has been missing the Red Bull Air Race every day of their lives.

We spoke to a spectator who said while he didn’t necessarily want to see anyone put in harm’s way he also was pretty keen on a demo derby of sorts. Adding,

“I think everyone who goes to see these sort of extreme vessels race kind wants to see some mayhem. Does that make us bad people? Probably but they know what they are doing racing 100km boats when the Doctor is in town!”

No doubt they are well aware of it now.
