VFL admits the pre-season State of Origin is just a way to get Vic players annual trip to WA over with early

The VFL has announced the State of Origin is returning as a match between Victoria and Western Australia to be held on 14th February 2026.

Footy fans were quick to point out the fixture date would make it no more than a glorified pre-season exhibition match. For at least an hour, the VFL tried to dispute this before crumbling under the pressure.

A source close to the VFL finally admitted the true intentions behind this match. Adding,

“The VFL are doing it so the Vic players can get their annual trip to WA over and done with nice and early. They have assured the players that this match counts and they won’t be required to roam too far from Victoria for the main season”

Naturally, not everyone is happy about this. With WA footy fans telling the VFL they’d rather get some blockbuster games in Perth during the season. However, the VFL went on to say,

“Western Australians are, for lack of a better word, primordial beasts, they don’t have the same needs as Victorians. Your climate along is very distressing for our stars and we do our best to protect them from it”

Whether or not individual clubs will permit their stars to play in the match is a separate question altogether.

However, the VFL has told them behind the scenes that all they need to do is go over, get a few photos at Perth Stadium and the VFL will have plenty of proof it’s a fair competition when it comes to travel!
