WA beaches to take after the tip and charge entry fee based on how much gear you bring

Popular beaches from Perth to Margaret River have had to make a difficult decision to try and stop the creeping proliferation of shanty towns dominating beaches each season.

The exact list of beaches will be announced soon but basically the rule of thumb is if you need to go several hours early to get a park, it will apply.

Under the scheme, the amount of gear a family lugs to the beach will be weighed and an entry fee imposed.

We spoke to someone familiar with the policy who said it was about consideration. Adding,

“There will be no charge for anyone bringing a normal amount of gear with them. A few bags, an esky, a sun tent if you need. No problems. What we don’t want to see is someone bringing enough gear to last the apocalypse and taking up prime real estate for their cretinous family to take over the beach”

This policy will be particularly effective against families who consider the public space to be their free booking for parties & gatherings over the festive season.

While most beach goers are thrilled with the idea, many cabana-clans are not. With one such Patrol driving rockape telling The Times,

“No one tells me what I can do, if people wanted to use the beach they can get their before me, which will be pretty hard because I send the inlaws down at 5am to nab the spot ha ha, I really don’t care about a single living person outside my family”

The scheme will be rolling out closer to summer and concerned ratepayers will be alerted in due course.
