Western Australia has announced a ban on commercial demersal fishing from 1 January 2026.
This, of course, has piqued Border Force’s interest who have been busy buying up every available super trawler this morning in anticipation of giving illegal fisherman a tax payer funded vessel.
A source close to Border Force told The Times that the crime was more substantial so the punishment had to be as well. Adding,
“You may be wondering why Border Force is getting involved in domestic fishing regulation. Well, they have a fever and the only prescription is free boats. If you think you can flout WA’s new laws then get ready for a multi million dollar boat, all ready to go, punk”
Some within the fishing community have praised the Australian Government for this strong stance.
While others say it may motivate unscrupulous companies to break WA’s laws in the hope of getting an extremely valuable piece of fishing kit. Our source rebutted,
“Nah, can’t see that happening, you think people just want free boats worth millions? Get real, I reckon Border Force want a bit of what you’re on mate”
Recreational fishing will be permitted to continue after spring 2027.
