The Down South Community has applauded Roger Cook for considering an extra WA Public holiday given the overwhelming sentiment that they don’t get to spend enough long weekends per year with Perth blow-ins.
Many have urged the Premier to ensure the public holiday is in the Spring or Summer months to maximise the amount of Perth traffic flowing their way.
We spoke to a Margaret River local who said it was about time something was done about this injustice. Adding,
“Currently we only have 11 public holidays! Only 11 long weekends I get to enjoy fighting to gain access to my usual coffee shop, pubs and shopping centres. It’s a bit ordinary and the people of the South West deserve beter”
A source close to the Premier said he was even considering calling it Douth Day and making it the first Monday of Summer to celebrate the worst of Douth season.
Another Dunsborough local told The Times,
“Bring it on! Finally the Cook Government looking out for the regional communities. You know sometimes I even forget what it’s like to be surrounded by influencers, screaming brats and filthy kents leaving their rubbish alone our pristine shoreline”
Douth Day is expected to be announced in the near future.
