Freo’s evening just got a little bit worse after blowing a decent lead and losing to Geelong at Kardinya Park today.
However, it wasn’t only the players that appeared to run out of fuel, as the team bus suffered a similar fate and ran out of diesel en route to Melbourne Airport.
A witness told The Times that it was both poetic and tragic, adding,
“What an apt metaphor for the day. Pretty rough situation, given the availability of diesel they could be stuck in Geelong for a while. It’ll give them time to think about what went wrong at the end there”
We understand that Fremantle has reached out to its major sponsor Woodside to send an emergency barrel of crude to Geelong. With an industry insider telling The Times,
“It will be cheaper to refine the crude into diesel than wait for diesel to become available or affordable again. Its probably the Dockers only chance of getting back to Perth any time soon”
Perhaps those Geelong players can offer the Dockers a place to camp on their lovely farms…
