Government requires Smiths Beach development to include Wave Park to win over locals

Does Yallingup have enough waves? That is the question the Government has wrestled with while deciding whether a development at Smiths Beach is appropriate.

While having final say over the project, the WA Government knows it has to balance the goals of the developers with the expectations of the local community.

So after much thought, the Government has decided to put a requirement that the developers build an artificial wave park as part of the project. Something they say locals will froth over.

When asked whether a wave park was really what they wanted a spokesperson for the Government told The Times,

“We’re quietly confident we are completely in tune to what Down South locals want”

Smiths Beach is famously a popular surf spot down south and some locals are saying the Government has missed the mark with this one. With one salty dog telling The Times,

“Look over there, see those? They are called waves, what the fark are we going to do with a farking wave park? Mate, if I bothered voting you wouldn’t have mine”

Other locals have gone beyond bemusement and lashed out calling a wave park a grotesque addition to such beautiful coastline and once again mentioning the fact the ocean is right there with some of the best waves in the world.

Another local said he loved the idea. However, upon further investigation, he only moved down south a year ago and can’t surf to save himself.

Checks out.
