As part of a redevelopment of Fancote Park, the infamous castle will be converted into a glass bottle recycling part to pay homage to its unofficial use by the Kelmscott population.
The move makes sense given the castle currently has enough glass to sustain the plant’s operations for decades to come.
We spoke with a Kelmscott local who told The Times that he is looking forward to lobbing bottles at the walls as per usual, adding,
“Look, I’d be doing it anyway so the fact I’m now helping the environment rather than putting kids at risk is a bit of a benefit, I suppose”
The centre will also serve as an educational spot for the kids playing in the proposed playground. A source close to the development told The Times,
“It will be good to instill in Kelmscott young’ns that they can follow in their parents footsteps of bottle smashers but to do it in an environmentally sustainable way, we aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel here”
No doubt this will come as good news to everyone who has smashed a few bottles at the Castle over the years.
