One of Australia’s largest resource companies is set to open the first open pit mine in Dunsborough Lakes given the development is essentially a giant mining camp to begin with. Understood to be Rio Tinto.
The resource company is remaining tight lipped on what they have allegedly discovered in the area but given the massive influx of FIFO families to the South West it was a no brainer.
A source close to the project said the company recognised that Dunsborough Lakes was a hotbed of FIFO activity. Adding,
“Who else wants to pay a thousand a week to stare at a colorbond fence all day? From Busso to Dunsborough Lakes, the entire area is becoming one giant wet mess and it’s time to capitalise on that”
The project will also herald in the first known WIWO worker, with personnel able to leisurely waltz to the mine each day. An absolute game changer for work life balance.
Not everyone is happy with the project however. With Old Dunsborough residents saying they are worried a full scale mining operation may interrupt their day on the golf course.
Similarly, legitimate locals say the only peace they get from the HiVis pisswrecks is when they are flown several thousand kilometres into the Pilbara for a couple of weeks.
One Dunsborough tradie told The Times,
“The breaks are getting too crowded as it is, how am I meant to ghost all my clients in peace when the surf is pumping when a dozen FIFO workers are trying to live their best life in the South West?”
How indeed.
