As part of the Government’s commitment to upgrading the crumbling infrastructure in WA’s oldest hospitals a racetrack has been proposed to help speed up emergency admissions to RPH.
Taking inspiration from another project, the purpose built hospital racetrack will be designed with one focus in mind: speeding up health services which in turn will reduce ramping and wait times.
We spoke to a source close to WA Health who said the idea was going to be a hit with the public. Adding,
“It’s quite simple, a racetrack is all about flow which is the goal of effective triage, this Government is committed to the community building power of racetracks wherever they may be”
While the project will need much of the $50M promised, many orderlies are excited at the prospect of reaching new speeds with beds. With one adding,
“We think we can shave off several minutes per patient transfer, that doesn’t sound like much but stack that up over a day we’re potentially hours ahead, you could even fit in an extra operation in that time”
Naturally, the engineering side of this project will need to be fleshed out with many wondering if it’s just a bandaid solution.
Only time will tell.
