The VFL AFL has knighted Nick Daicos for services to footy at the 2026 player awards night held this evening.
It comes after scooping the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award, Leigh Matthews Trophy and AA selection. =
A spokesperson for the AFL told The Times that the honour was badly overdue, adding,
“We have also nominated Nick for a Victoria Cross and Order of Australia, please if you can think of any other awards to shell out let us know, we tried to hand out the Brownlow tonight, but our advertising partners stopped us!”
Commentators have received their briefing from the AFL that they must refer to Nick Daicos as Sir Nick Daicos any time he touches the ball.
Judging by the load-blowing enthusiasm when he even sniffs the ball, this shouldn’t be much of a problem, right BT?
The honours are thought to finally “make up” for the multiple Brownlow snubs the “little genius” has endured recently.
Alas, some within the footy community say that while the awards are good and arguably better than umpire-orientated accolades, there is still a certain status to the Brownlow Medal.
