Australians with British relatives travelling to the UK are reportedly confused by the new passport system which dictates the criteria for being declared dual citizen.
The classification is important as anyone who is deemed a British citizen must enter the country with their UK passport or risk the return flight of shame.
Given the uproar about the confusing system, the UK decided to streamline the process to avoid any confusion at all.
At the border, you will be asked a simple question: do you hold The Ashes. If the answer is yes, you may enter on your Australian passport. If you’re a butter fingered flop, then you will be required to enter on your UK passport.
This will also give dual citizens a chance to revoke their British burden for free. All they must do is accept the true holders of The Ashes and condemn England for ruining another series.
We spoke to one man who entered under the new system recently. He said it went smoothly, adding,
“The guy ahead of me was about to enter on his Australian passport before the officer at the gate sprung a surprise question on him, asking if the Bairstow stumping was in the spirit of cricket, he didn’t say no but he hesitated, that was enough to be forced into the UK line, I got through fine though”
And fair enough too.
