An ageing millennial takes a moment at least once a day to thank the powers that be that social media was in its infant stages in the years he embraced Nu Metal as a lifestyle.
Looking at some old photos developed onto actual film, Todd told The Times,
“Nu Metal really let you express yourself. I guess you could say my style was heavily influenced by Korn with a bit of Limp Bizkit thrown in there. Gothy, grungey, skatey, I was a fkn mess man”
Not only does Todd appreciate that photos of his eyebrow ring don’t pop up on Facebook memories but also that no one had the quality of mobile phone camera to record some of h is regular shameful moments. He continued,
“I often wake up in a cold sweat at the thought of an alternate universe where I grew up in an era of 4k smart phones. Would footage of me singing Nookie after a backyard party half a goon bag deep surface? Because I did that. Regularly”
The very fact that Todd isn’t forcibly confronted by his questionable fashion choices means that Nu Metal has lived on in his heart.
Going through an old shoebox, Todd picks up an old Slipknot album and slides out the lyrics. He took a deep breath,
“Do you know I had dyed black hair that I spiked and I’d read these lyrics on the 106 in my brand spankin’ pair of DCs? Then I’d change my name of MSN and mIRC to a full paragraph of said lyrics later in the evening. But you wouldn’t know that unless I told you”
He raises a good point.
