REPORT: there’s enough sand on the floors of Westralian cars to save Lancelin

The WA Government has made an impassioned plea to the people of Westralia to help Lancelin by dropping off the sand that has accumulated in their car over the years.

On average, a Westralian car has around 2kg of loose sand floating about on the floor and crevices. With over 3 million of us now, you can do the maths.

We spoke to a sand expert who said the average Westralian was “lazy” when it came to cleaning their feet after the beach. Adding,

“We accumulate a shit-ton of sand due to a few factors. Firstly, there is sand everywhere and secondly we tend to take a she’ll be right attitude when it comes to driving home after a dip”

However, the sand sitting uselessly in our cars could be going towards some sand nourishment in Lancelin – where erosion is threatening the town.

So next time you’re banging it up the coast, why not donate some of your sand to the cause.
