Kmart has made the brave choice to scrap its line of Anko “smart boardies” after intense public backlash led it to scrap its $89 smart perve glasses.
The retail giant said that on reflection, the boardshorts fitted with a discreet camera could also pose an unacceptable risk to society,
“There is a small chance that people could use these shorts to film people in bikinis at the beach. We’d like to think people would use them responsibility but apparently, we got it wrong with the smart glasses too”
Critics of the boardies say that the shorts would be extra risky as anyone walking around pointing a phone at people on a beach would ring alarm bells. As an expert told us,
“People argue that the smart glasses are OK because a phone can record people and that’s true and it’s also true that it’s par for the course to walk around a shopping centre with your phone out which you could be filming people with, however on the beach that doesn’t fly”
Kmart says it’s now committed to creating a less creepy world. Accordingly, the “Anko smart speedos” have also been ditched.
On’ya Kmart.
