The AFL conceded it was operating under the assumption that Freo fans are unemployed when it finalised the 2027 fixture which featured a heavy lashing of afternoon games on Thursdays and Fridays.
A source close to the AFL aka VFL told The Times,
“We’ve always just taken West Coast supporter’s word for it and they tell us that Freo are a bunch of rudderless hippies selling beads at South Beach to fund their next bush doof, so we didn’t think work would get in the way”
While the coveted prime time slots are fantastic in Victoria when the matches start at 7:30pm, here in the West we must cater to Vic Bias and kick off moments after most normal people have only just finished work.
We spoke to a Freo fan who said he was probably going to quit his job or scale down to part time,
“This would be a great fixture for an unemployed person, for me it’s going to mean racing from Joondalup to Perth Stadium in peak hour traffic after I knock off work, can that be done in like 10 mins? AFL thinks so”
Another fan said Friday mornings are going to be a new low for him, adding,
“Yeah, I’m still going to get on the beer snakes and Camfield after, work is just going to have to tolerate me hugging the porcelain more”
Ah well!
Documenting the Human Zoo is thirsty work, so if you enjoyed what you read how about buying Belle a beer, ay?
