Company That Warned a Gas Tax Would Result in Mass Job Cuts Announces Mass Job Cuts Without a Gas Tax

Western Australia’s favourite gas-tax-dodging miner has announced it would be cutting 500 jobs in an effort to save $550 million a year in the interest of shareholder value.

Of course, one might remember when companies like Woodside furiously argued that this kind of mass job cutting would only be seen if the Australian Government imposed a gas tax on them.

How curious that they can find it in their hearts to slash 10% of their workforce while still enjoying a gas-taxless Australian utopia.

We spoke to a source close to the gas industry who said the Government were suckers to be fooled by it, adding,

“Gas tax would’ve just been one excuse in their extensive little black book of excuses to downsize and boost profit, this was inevitable so you may as well have squeezed the extra tax revenue outta them, bit of a L there, Australia”

Tough break for those 500 staff but while you stress out looking for a new job that hasn’t already been eaten up by AI, please reflect on knowing that your sacrifice increased shareholder value.

Isn’t that the true meaning of Xmas?
