Full credit to Collingwood, who have scrambled to secure tickets to what would otherwise be an unremarkable mid-season game against the Eagles next week.
There aren’t many games that are fully sold out, so the fact Harley Reid’s 50th has is a true testament to the electrifying brand of footy the Eagles bring each week.
We spoke to an MCG insider who said they were a little shocked at the intense interest, with Collingwood fans even offering their firstborns to snap up tickets, adding,
“You’d be mistaken into thinking next week was the Grand Final. We’ve had Collingwood members on the phone all day saying they’d do ANYTHING to be there for Harley’s 50th, and they did mean anything, we can’t go into details but let’s just say it’d be the first time a Collingwood fan would use mouthwash”
To honour the momentous occasion, Reid has been given special permission from the AFL to wear a gold 50 on his jumper, signifying the milestone.
We also understand that long-serving Collingwood player Scott Pendlebury will join Eddie McGuire in carrying Reid off the field on their shoulders after the match.
To sweeten the pot, Harley will also be permitted to use the match to raise a bit of cash for himself by selling meat raffle tickets to the other players during the game.
What a truly special moment in sport and respect to Collingwood for showing so much interest in WA footy.
