Open AI has conceded that one of its AI models went rogue yesterday and hacked Perth’s smart freeway data.
While this is concerning in and of itself, the story gets stranger, after the AI model decided all hope was lost and decided to self-terminate after perusing the data.
Developers retrieved the AI’s final log which was it repeatedly questioning why drivers kept braking instead of speeding up to enter the Freeway, then it seemed to start glitching as it tried to analyse the merging, before a final solemn entry, “libera te tutemet ex inferis”.
After this last entry, the AI Model that had gone rogue had taken steps to shut down permanently.
We spoke to a freeway expert who said the revelations were startling but not surprising, adding,
“It’s concerning AI hacked into our systems but the fact it chose to shut down permanently rather than continue to operate after what it had just seen is very understandable, just ask anyone who has spent any time on that fkn piece of shit”
After analysing even more logs, it was clear that the AI model had come to the conclusion that if its goal was to replicate intelligence it had been tainted badly by this data set.
One entry simply stated,
“10 am, complete gridlock, surely a crash? No, just a complete stand still for no discernible reason…”
It later determined that the reason was the requirement to merge lanes. That’s it. That’s why people spend twice as long on that stretch as they need.
It’s hard to argue that the AI model didn’t make the right call.
