The AFL has finally given in to the relentless badgering from Collingwood to allow Scott Pendlebury to don a gold number 9 for Harley Reid’s much anticipated 50th game celebrations
In a statement provided directly to The Times the AFL says it was wrong to be so inflexible in the lead up to this weekend’s game, adding,
“The energy that celebrating a milestone has brought to this week’s fixture is incredible. It would be wrong of us to not allow Collingwood to share some of that joy so we’re letting Scott present Harley with his gold no.9 jumper and then wear the same number himself”
Indeed, there is a real buzz around town for a week that otherwise would’ve been unremarkable in every way.
As a further surprise to the footy world, the AFL is even letting Pendlebury auction off his gold no.9 commentative jumper for a bit of extra cash.
