Australia’s major airlines have conceded that they will be price gouging the shit out of Freo fans as payback for the money they lost on the 2021 Grand Final.
Back in 2021, the AFL was forced to rely on WA to host the GF as Sicktoria just wasn’t up to the task due to their own COVID restruictions.
Alas, while WA was happy to host the Grand Final they weren’t about to let in diseased Victorians to watch. This, obviously, was catastrphic to the airlines bottom lines.
We spoke to an industry insider who said the Grand Final price gouging was one of the airlines most profitable times of the year, adding,
“They still haven’t forgiven WA for robbing them of that profit so they’ve been biding their time, waiting for a WA team to get back to Grand Final level and now they have it, this is payback plain and simple”
As Freo progress the airfares are only going to get more extreme and if the airlines have their way the average price of a ticket to the Grand Final in September will be somewhere between an arm, a leg and a newborn.
Some say this is Joycey’s final revenge.
