Coles & Woolworths have been left red faced after their facial recognition trial backfired spectacularly after the cameras wouldn’t stop flagging their own prices as criminal.
The technology is meant to be used to identify crooks to minimise theft and improve public safety. Alas, it seems the AI was more powerful than they thought.
We spoke to an industry insider who told The Times,
“So, the AI was tasked with identifying risk of crime, right? The real crimes were all over the store all along, you seen how much these dogs charge for a capsicum? For olive oil? For cheese? Absolute crooks mate, and the cameras were onto it”
The trials have therefore been discontinued effective immediately.
In shocking scenes, the cameras actually went further and sent notifications to the police after seeing more bullshit specials roll out. Our insider continued,
“The police actually contacted the retail giants and told them they were wasting their time with all these pings because just about everything was a rort, the cameras were also intuitively picking up on farmers as victims of pricing crimes and sending notifications too”
Unbelievable scenes.
