All sides of politics, even other Labor Departments, have slammed the Freo Traffic Bridge’s completion 3 months ahead of schedule based on the concern it could raise unrealistic expectations.
In the world of major infrastructure projects, delays and cost blow outs are par for the course and a project finishing on time, let alone early, is somewhat of a rarity.
We spoke to an industry insider who said the swift bridge work has ruffled a few feathers, adding,
“No one wants the public to expect things on time because if they expect things on time, you have to deliver them on time, it’s a vicious cycle to be fair”
The Opposition has even gone as far as accusing Labor of breaking the sacred truce between all political parties. Our source cojtinued,
“Even political rivals know what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, there’s an unspoken rule that you just drag out a project to keep public expectation at a nice pessimistic level”
It is unclear whether the Government will charge ahead with its ambitious 1 November opening or will heed the advice and pull out some random spanner in the works.
Only time will tell.
