In a wonderful twist of fate, major gas companies operating in Western Australia will be asked to fund Transperth to give everyone else the experience of enjoying a free ride.
It comes after pressure from The Greens (later hijacked by Basil) to make public transport free for all Westralians during these expensive times.
A spokesperson for the WA Government said it really was the least gas companies could do as they pay no State tax and find creative ways around the federal tax. Adding,
“Whether it’s paying nothing to profit off Australian gas or enjoying a lovely ride up the Mandurah line, a free ride is something everyone in Australia should get to enjoy”
Naturally, the gas giants wanted to make a strong proviso that if they hand over the pocket change to fund free public transport, they wanted naming rights of the train lines.
Thankfully, this was seen as just a little too blatant and they were told if they wanted to pretend they were good blokes they could sponsor the Dockers or throw some money at some walking trails in the hills.
We spoke to a struggling battler who said while free public transport was good he’d much rather see those mutts pay their fair share of tax. Adding,
“Absolute mongrels, everyone hates paying tax why do these pelicans get a free ride!”
Well said old mate.
