West Coast’s interchange bench has been slapped with a 3-week ban for what the MRO described as “flagrant rough conduct” against Harley Reid in the first quarter.
As Harley got up from his seat, a concrete step viciously took him down, rolling his ankle in the process. The MRO said it was exactly the kind of thing they are trying to phase out of footy.
A spokesperson for the concrete step said it was considering whether to appeal the ban, adding,
“Games gone. the concrete step was just competing and decisions like this will mean benches in the future won’t take the contest on, honestly”
Others in the footy world said the concrete step got exactly what it deserrved, with one West Coast fan telling The Times,
“We’re entering the honourable loss era of the rebuild and the last thing we need is thuggery for the bench, it’s meant to be there to facilitate rest not do ankles! Fuck the bench!”
He raises a good point. However, Some say it sets a worrying precedent and the VFL will push for penalties against Perth Stadium’s surface they seem to have it in for
Much to consider.
