New police live facial recognition cameras short circuit after one train arrives from Ellenbrook

Western Australian Police have been left red faced after their new live facial recognition camera trial ground to a halt after just one train arrived in the CBD from Ellenbrook.

Witnesses on the ground said they were disturbed by the erratic whirring from the cameras before they electronics inside blew and caught fire.

A source close to the operation said they got it wrong and hadn’t thought about the prospect of a train arriving from Ellenbrook. Adding,

“The train wasn’t even full. Imagine what a full load is going to do to the cameras! They have got the finest surveillance experts on the planet there right now advising on the kind of hardware they’ll need”

As a precaution the trial has been paused as the police soon understood the gravity of the situation with dozens more Ellenbrook trains scheduled to arrive. Not to mention Armadale, Mandurah and Midland.

It’s especially concerning given the imminent arrival of NRL in Perth. We spoke to a NRL expert who said the City’s defences would have to be beefed up quickly. Adding,

“You get a small taste of it on Origin nights but they are during the week. Imagine what you’ll be looking at on a weekend game, seriously, get it together Perth”

More to come.
