In news that will surprise no one, every Council in Perth has agreed to roll out a fourth FOGO bin designed specifically for people to discard their lithium batteries.
The move comes after Perth experiences a garbo truck on fire almost every week due to people incorrectly discarding devices with lithium batteries contained within.
We spoke to a garbage truck expert who said the constant dumping and firefighting was costing Council’s loads. Adding,
“It’s just not getting through people’s thick skulls. Personally I blame vapes but it really could be any kind of device with a battery in it. It’s happening so often you have to wonder if some vapers get some kind of sick pleasure out of it”
We spoke to a Rockingham resident who said he’d need the bin to be collected twice a week given his absolute addiction to the vape. Adding,
“If my bin is full I’m just going to chuck it in the neighbour’s recycling like I normally do. I really don’t care about garbos or their safety, I’m also a massive baby that refuses to reduce waste in any way shape or form”
Well that isn’t surprising.
