A Western Australian man needing urgent care has had the novel idea of skipping the ED room queue and boarding a plane to Tenerife Spain.
From Tenerife, the man bypassed security to board the Hantavirus cruise ship which instantly got him a round trip to Bullsbrook, Perth via the Netherlands.
Once in Perth, he’d get his own bed at the Bullsbrook quarantine facility with Commonwealth doctors on hand to tend to what ails him. Hopefully not hantavirus, mind you.
All told, this cheeky little workaround will save the man several days of wait time. Which is doing pretty good in WA these days. As he told The Times,
“If I hadn’t taken this round the world adventure then I’d likely still be in the back of an ambulance so I’m not complaining”
We spoke to WA Health insider who said that the workaround was not being officially recommended to patients who were getting tired of waiting. Adding,
“Yeah whatever you can do to take pressure off the WA Health System, do it, it’s all Commonwealth resources at Bullsbrook so go drain those”
Well said.
