The AFL has vehemently denied Harley Reid is being umpired unfairly after it was revealed the young mid fielder gave away a 50 while shopping at Bunnings on the weekend.
According to witnesses, the infraction occurred in the line for the sausage sizzle after a little confusion who was next up to grab a snag. They reported,
“Neither knew who was supposed to go up and out of nowhere an AFL umpire appeared and blew his whistle and accused Harley of not standing the mark and pinged him for 50”
The AFL said that the 50 was clearly there, as a spokesperson told The Times,
“Look the rule is designed to keep the game moving and stop delays, clearly Harley was next and should have been standing where he should’ve, if he doesn’t want to give away 50s then stop breaking the rules”
Some eagle-eyed pundits were quick to point out that the infraction occurred outside an AFL game. Which even for the AFL is an extremely unusual penalty to pay. Their spokesperson continued,
“This is just west-bias pure and simple, sure he was given a penalty well outside the clearly set boundaries of an AFL game but um, well, the 50 was there!!!!”
The Eagles plan to seek clarification on the incident.
