Ambulances now required to register as short-term accommodation as ramping worsens

Ambulance ramping is back in the spotlight after accommodation providers took aim at the services for essentially being “short term accommodation” outside hospitals all over Perth.

The perception is that these “four wheeled Airbnb’s” are getting away with not going through the same compliance checks as other providers while letting people stay overnight.

A spokesperson for WA Health said the requirement was outrageous but sadly fitting, adding,

“Ambulances have indeed become short term accommodation, not intentionally but that’s the reality. We’d very much like to move the short-term tenants into ED faster but there just isn’t capacity so in the ambulance they stay for a night or 30”

Not everyone is mad at the prospect, with a night in the ambulance rivalling your average Airbnb fee anyway.

We spoke to a holidaymaker who said the cost of short-term accommodation in Perth was disgraceful so the choice to slam his hand in a door was a no-brainer, adding,

“The beds are more comfortable and honestly probably have the same amount of bodily fluid spilled on them over the years, at least you know the ambulance is properly cleaned”

That’s certainly making lemonade out of a garbage bag full of unripe lemon shit.
