BHP says the arrival of several QantasLink planes full of Kiwis has absolutely nothing to do with the planned industrial action tomorrow.
However, sources close to the Unions say the arrival of so many New Zealanders was suspicious. Especially after the mining giant declared that their operations would continue to sun safely despite the strike.
We spoke to a Port Hedland local who told The Times,
“BHP knew that a bunch of Kiwis wandering around in HiVis wouldn’t look out of the norm in Port Hedland, hiding in plain site, as it were, however there is a lot and the timing just seems suss”
The insider also said he noticed vending machines full of L&P on site which also made him highly suspicious of the sudden surge in NZ tourism.
We spoke to one Kiwi who said he and his 200 countrymen were just holidaying in Port Hedland, adding,
“Just here for a mean az holiday bro, that’s what the suit who lured us here told us to say, apparently we get to go on a tour of their facilities tomorrow, chur”
Whether these Kiwis actually know they could be working tomorrow is unclear. However, mining giants understand just how powerful the allure of the WA Mining Industry is to New Zealanders. With one insider telling us,
“A job on the moines is the golden ticket for cuzzys, wait until the plane load of Irishmen arrives too”
The plot thickens.
