WA has introduced changes to subdivision laws that will allow 700m2 blocks be subdivided which is intended to incentive development of badly needed homes.
The policy addresses the painfully clear reality that Perth needs infill rather than endless sprawling into the nether regions of the WA outback.
Alas, it requires one key piece of the puzzle which has been an absolute mess since the spicy cough days – the WA building industry to get its shit together.
We spoke to a Perth couple who is already the owners of one beautiful concrete slab on their block which hasn’t seen any progress since 2022. They told The Times,
“Our little slabby wabby is getting lonely so this is an excellent opportunity for us to build him a mate, you know what they say, two slabs are better than one but we’d really prefer a home to be finished if we’re being picky”
Of course, in an ideal world, perhaps the incentive to subdivide will push savvy entrepreneurs to look at cheaper housing options and break the hold that costly double brick builds have over WA.
However, in the words of a WA resident,
“You can pry my double bricks from my cold dead hands”
Ah well, you just know Anko could develop a flat pack house if Ikea doesn’t beat them to it. Even if WA will never consider the option.
