Western Australia has silenced its international & interstate critics by making headlines this afternoon for a positive reason. Local boy Jack Della Maddalena defeated Randy Brown in a dominant first round effort and let the world know that WA isn’t all mining industry related catastrophes.
We spoke to an American who was in town for UFC 284 today and admitted that he didn’t know much about WA except for a few unflattering international headlines. Telling The Times,
“Yeah, all I really knew about WA is crashed lambos, some crackies banging at Langley Park, sacred caves were blown up and you lost that radioactive capsule. Now the world will know that WA has produced some positive news and I think that’s good for the state”
It was an important moment for WA as all eyes were on us for the fight. No doubt the world was waiting for us to Perf it up as many predicted. An international journalist told The Times,
“I think the whole world is now looking at Perth as a city of champions. A place that can hold major events and not let them descend into some HiVis related disaster. In one way or another. Every young American fighter is talking about Perth and not mentioning the radioactive capsule so well done”
Nevertheless, the day is still young and the media is hungry to show that WA can’t be trusted with events. Time will only tell what will happen. Especially when Post Malone fans collide with UFC fans who have been drinking since 6am.
